Review of "Smoothies For Kidney Health," by Victoria L. Hulett and Jennifer L. Waybright

Review of
Smoothies For Kidney Health, by Victoria L. Hulett and Jennifer L. Waybright ISBN 9780757004117

Five out of five stars
This book fits into the category of “In order to solve your {fill in specific health problem} reduce your intake of processed food, replacing it with properly selected and prepared fruits and vegetables.” In this case the blank is filled with kidney function and the specified method of delivery is via smoothies.
The opening is an explanation of the problems associated with a failure of the kidneys and the obvious value of keeping them functioning. The last half contains tips for making quality smoothies and a set of recipes for making a wide variety of healthy delights. Given the large number of recipes, everyone should be able to find something that will satisfy their tastes. A quality smoothie is a pleasure to drink, so this is the highlight of the book.
Another strength of the book is the list of references at the end, they are not the common listings of articles in popular publications, they reference publications in high-level medical journals. As a scientist, I find nothing more frustrating than a book containing health advice where all the reference are taken from non-scientific publications.
