Review of
Daredevil,
DVD starring Ben Affleck as Daredevil
Four out of five stars
Of all the main
Marvel superheroes, Daredevil is one of those that I have traditionally liked
least. While my opinion has been upgraded a bit on the positive side by this
movie, the real star is Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios. She is a very well-trained
athlete/fighter, capable of holding her own against Daredevil and even the
deadly assassin called Bullseye.
Ben Affleck’s
performance as Matt Murdock/Daredevil is average at best, completely
overwhelmed by Garner and Colin Farrell as the powerful Bullseye. These two
powerful foils that battle Daredevil and then each other are what make the
movie as good as it is. Michael Clarke Duncan plays the powerful crime boss
known as “Kingpin” and his performance is also in the average category.
It is a rare
occasion when the supporting role alongside the main character merits a movie
on her own, this movie is an existence proof that it can happen. Natchios is
not a Robin to the Batman of Daredevil, she is an independent superb fighter
that could handle any ordinary criminal(s) with relative ease. One important
point is that the obvious vulnerability that Daredevil has is used by Bullseye
in their battle.
