Review of "Dog Heroes, by Karl Meyer

Review of
Dog Heroes, by Karl Meyer ISBN 9781603421379

Five out of five stars
This is a book that bring a tear to your eye as you read about the daring rescues carried out by dogs. While most of them underwent extensive training before their actions, in some cases it was spontaneous. Many different breeds of dogs are featured, the common theme is the trainability of dogs and how powerful their sense of smell is.
Furthermore, the reader is also impressed with the strength of some of the breeds appearing in this book. They are capable of pulling a sled over snow, serving as an impromptu live preserver and climbing over rubble. Dogs generally exhibit extreme loyalty to their humans. Some breeds are much more intelligent and trainable than others, of course the emphasis in this book is on those breeds.
This is an excellent book for children with a fondness for dogs and other animals. Dogs play a key role in the lives of many, largely as pets. However, in this book the reader learns of several dangerous jobs that dogs do very well.
