Review of
Instaread Summary of #AskGaryVee One Entrepreneur’s Take on Leadership, Social Media, and
Self-Awareness by Gary Vaynerchuk
Three out of five stars
One of the
latest classes of self-help books to arise are those that dispense advice on
how to to leverage social media to advance your business. While social media is
free and it is easy to post material online, doing it right is not easy. There
are many potential pitfalls and there are a large number of businesses that
have arisen that claim to be able to ably advise you or manage your presence on
social media. Yaynerchuk is a social media pro that has the credentials to
justify his claim to being the “best social media practitioner” and this
summary is a distillation of the book that is a distillation of his advice.
There is little
in this summary that is not found in other books about playing the social media
card in your business. From the summary I see nothing that would make me
believe that #AskGaryVee is in any way differentiated from other books.
Key takeaway 2
is flat out wrong. It is “Hard work is the only way to achieve success. Hustle
will always trump talent in the making of a winning business.“ This is a
contradiction of one of the best items of advice, “Work smarter, not harder.”
In fact, working smarter will almost always trump working harder, because it
has a much higher multiplier of return.
I was
unimpressed by this summary, it is uninspiring.
