Review of
Instaread Summary, Analysis & Review of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama’s and Archbishop DesmondTutu’s & et al The Book of Joy
Two out of five stars
I found this
summary baffling and somewhat contradictory. The overview concentrates on the
meeting between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Both men are of
advanced age, so this will no doubt be the last meeting between the two. Given
their histories of being around conflict and how they dealt with it, as well as
the power of their voices in the world, this is a strong inducement to read the
book.
However, the
key takeaways take a different track. There are eight of them and neither the
Dalai Lama or Archbishop Tutu are mentioned in any of them. Examples of actions
by other people are cited to reinforce the points of the takeaways.
Then, in the closing “Author’s Style” and “Author’s Perspective”
sections the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Tutu re-emerge. Since this is a book by
these two men, their absence in the takeaways is surprising and puzzling. The
key takeaways are very generic, so without the power of the voices of these two
men, this is just another self-help book, interesting but quickly forgotten.
