Review of "Dr. Miles New Joke Book"

Review of
Dr. Miles New Joke Book

Four out of five stars
The key feature of this pamphlet isn’t the quality of the jokes, but the structure of the advertisements. The main product is Dr. Miles’ Nervine, a medicine that is touted as being fairly close to a cure-all treatment and in second place is Alka-Seltzer. There are also ads for Dr. Miles’ anti-pain pills, and Aspir-Mint tablets.
One ad advocates putting Alka-Seltzer powder in water and snuffing it up your nose as a cure for a cold. The ads were clearly written before the more stringent laws regarding truth in advertising were put into action, as some of the claims sound extravagant. Testimonials for the products appear regularly in the pages.
This pamphlet is amusing to read, the jokes will generate a light chuckle, but the ads will illuminate.
